How to carry on working when the world is on fire.

If you’re feeling a little hopeless at the moment due to the world being on fire, just know you’re not alone.

I recently responded to a Thread that asked why 2020 and 2025 felt similar.

Shortly after sharing this on instagram, my dms were flooded with lots of people who resonated with the sense of hopelessness, anxiety and lack of motivation that we all seem to be feeling right now.

It soon became a conversation about the divide that we’re currently experiencing, not only in the UK but across the globe. The rise in fascism and hate, genocide and war, dictatorship - no matter how hard we try or how much of a bubble we put ourselves in, there’s no hiding from the fear and feeling of unease around us. We are, after all, building and growing our businesses so economically we need to be prepared and aware, but also the fatigue of yet another potential global crisis is taking its toll. I’ve also noticed that those among us who are aware of our privilege comes a boat load of guilt, understandably.

But if we don’t take up space in the face of fascism, then the wrong voices become the loudest in the room, and we can’t be having that.

I had previously compared myself to Michael Moore… completely unrelated to the conversation.

I also shared it with our community - this is the part where I show you just how much hope there is in the world, and how important community is.

Wild members came through with the pep talks and proof that finding the right community means you’ll have the strength to carry on when you think you shouldn’t be taking up space. But if we don’t take up space in the face of fascism, then the wrong voices become the loudest in the room, and we can’t be having that.

I feel so lucky to know these wonderful people.

Why is this an important conversation when it comes to business? Because when you're a values and purpose-led business owner: human rights, the state of the world and the effects on the economy are part of your growth strategy, or should be.
