Hi, I’m Jess: founder of Wild
Marketing expert, UN Women UK delegate, painter and Pisces (that last bit sounds like a cute coffee shop or a pub, doesn’t it?)
And it’s funny you should say that, because Wild actually began as an in-person hotdesking venue in Frome.
My story of self-employment has all the classics: a toxic corporate workplace, burnout, self-employed loneliness, networking events centred around the pale, male and stale, a global pandemic (which meant the in-person community changed to a virtual one), a surprise epilepsy diagnosis and a ruptured Achilles’ tendon.
And whilst, sure, some of those are quite specific (I’m looking at you, ruptured Achilles’ tendon on the first day out of isolation…) every single one informed and/or reinforced my motivation behind why I do what I do: the current system is built with a very narrow slice of people in mind, and something needs to change.
Enter Wild: a welcoming, supportive community for self-employed women and non-binary folk globally.
Both Wild and JDH. communications, my marketing business drawing on 18 years’ experience in marketing and PR (working for places like Bristol Old Vic, Alexandra Palace, Harbour Festival, Wimbledon Arts Festival, British Council, Extraordinary Bodies and ACM), are built with accessibility and inclusivity as a non-negotiable, not a nice-to-have.
I’m also a UN Women UK delegate, working to close the gender pay gap everyday.
I know first hand what it’s like to build a business from rock bottom, but I also know how important it is to do it in a way that works for you – and that’s what Wild and I are here to help you with.
Wild’s helped hundreds of women and non-binary business owners grow, sustain and scale their businesses over the course of six years.
To date, the majority of its founding members are still within the community; and it’s still my favourite job in the whole world, providing brilliant change makers with the space and support they need to actually make the change.
But the work isn’t over and as the world appears to be on fire, we need community more now than ever.
Inside our community…
I also love working 121 with business owners to help keep them moving forwards, when perhaps it almost feels impossible to carry on.
Things I love:
Helping you go from confused to clear in the space of an hour
Being your sounding board and providing creative solutions
Holding space for you online and in-person to talk through your business ideas and challenges
Zooming out from your current strategy, pulling it apart for a big declutter and putting it back together again so it actually works
Bigging you up when you’re getting yourself down
Keeping you accountable to your awesome ideas, getting them out of the notes app and into the world.
Here’s me chatting about leadership and why I started Wild:
